Novotel Bangkok Suvarnabhumi Airport Hotel Review: A luxurious way to avoid the airport rush

Is there anything worse than the thought of being stuck in traffic when trying to get to the airport? You’re about to potentially jump on a long flight as it is, the last thing you’ll need is that commute being extended, stuck in the back of a taxi as you watch minutes tick by. This is the far less glamorous side to travelling and it can be a nail-biting pain in the neck!

After spending 3 months travelling around Southeast Asia, I found myself spending my last few nights in Bangkok before flying back to Sydney for another year. So after spending a lot of time on the move, jumping from bus to train to taxi, I wanted to make sure my final night before flying was a stress-free as possible. Enter the Novotel Bangkok Suvarnabhumi hotel, not only a hotel incredibly close to BKK airport but a seriously luxurious one at that. If you’re pondering your options about where to stay close to Bangkok airport, here’s my review of the indulgent Novotel at BKK airport.

Incredible location

How incredible exactly? Well, let me start with my arrival at the Novotel. I opted to catch public transport via train to the airport and finding my way to the hotel could not have been easier. As soon as I exited through the barriers I saw signs everywhere leading me straight to the Novotel. A quick 5 minutes walk later through blissful airconditioning and I was at reception checking in. That’s all it takes; 5 minutes to get between the Novotel and the terminal! In addition to this, the airport also runs a 24-hour shuttle service between the 2 so no matter what time you arrive, within minutes you can be making a bee-line to your bed. Bliss!

Amazing features made for convenience

I wanted to start off this review with 2 features that make the Novotel a step above others when it comes to convenience. Number 1 is the fact that they have 24-hour flexi check-in. This means that you actually get the full 24 hours stay from the time you check-in. There’s no checking in after 2 pm and having to check out at 11 am the next day leaving you waiting around hours for your night flight. As I had an evening flight, I checked in around 3 pm and got to stay and relax right up until the moment I had to go to departures. It was honestly bliss!

Number 2 is that they also have ‘flexi meals’. When you book a room with breakfast at the Novotel airport hotel, it actually means a room with any meal to suit your arrival time. Arrive too late to make it for breakfast the next morning? No problem, the meal can be used for lunch or dinner instead. They created this feature to match their 24-hour check-in feature, and I think it’s brilliant and incredible value for money.

Beautiful rooms where you won’t hear a peep

The Novotel Bangkok Suvarnabhumi Airport has 612 rooms with 5 different types to choose from. I stayed in a Superior Room which, it’s hard to believe, is their entry level room. This room was huge, cosy and seriously plush. What’s even better is despite the proximity to the airport, you could literally hear a pin drop in the room. There was no sound of plane engines rattling the windows, and as my room faced the pool, no splashing from their either. That combined with the thick blackout curtains made for a great nights sleep.

The room had absolutely everything you could possibly need to unwind. There was a small comfy armchair in the corner, as well as a small desk which was perfect for me to crack on with some work. To go along with the very homey feel, there was also a coffee machine and kettle with a good selection of tea and coffee to use as well. The TV had plenty of English channels to choose from too and the mini-bar was seriously well stocked. The perfect combination if you ask me!

The bathroom, of course, completely complimented the luxuriousness of the bedroom too. It’s a beautiful modern bathroom with a separate shower and bathtub and plenty of toiletries as well. Although I always prefer to see refillable bottles in hotels, it was at least good to see that the single-use toiletries here are fair trade products.

Plenty of excellent facilities

As well as the room being fully equipped with everything you need, the rest of the hotel offers plenty of amenities to make the time even more enjoyable. With 7 bars and restaurants to choose from, serving up dishes from all over the world, and a different style to each one. From the more formal dining at the Golden Village to the casual bites at the Touchdown Sportsbar, there’s something for everyone. I actually decided to eat at the Sportsbar and scoffed down a really delicious burger with a happy hour drink.

If fitness is your kind of thing (it’s clearly not mine at this stage of my trip) then you’ll be pleased to hear that the Novotel has the best hotel gym I’ve ever seen! Their fitness centre is huge with multiples of each machine so you can really go in there and get on with your work out without having to wait. To complement this, the locker rooms also have a sauna, steam room and jacuzzi in them to relax afterwards. Outside is a fantastic pool with ample loungers to chill out on. It also has a pool bar, and, I mean, what screams ‘holiday’ more than that?

The best breakfast selection

I opted to have breakfast as my flexi-meal and it filled me up good! Breakfast is served in The Square restaurant and there is a huge selection within the buffet. From full English to salmon, fresh fruits, delicious cheeses, honeycomb, cereals and an egg station, it was hard to decide what to have. So I didn’t, I decided to pretty much have a bit of everything. Can you blame me though?

I sometimes think the sheer size of a hotel might alter how far the staff can stretch but this was no problem at the Novotel. From the moment I checked in to every time I got in the lift or wandered around the lobby, every member of staff was so welcoming. This hotel is all about luxury and convenience and the people working here really bring that to life. How stunning is the lobby area too?

My final thoughts about the Novotel Bangkok Suvarnabhumi Airport

This was my first time staying at a true airport hotel and I have to say, I loved it. If you’re looking for a hotel to stay in that is a stone throw from the airport but feels a million miles away like you’re still on holiday, I cannot recommend the Novotel enough. It’s luxurious without the pretentiousness, homely whilst still feeling indulgent and has features that really have us travellers at heart. It provides the ultimate stress-free place to stay, and for me, it was the best way to end my time in Bangkok.
